| George Lucas has never hidden
the fact that he was inspired by some of the great classics
of fantasy adventure when he created the classic "Star
Wars" universe. In an introduction to a story synopsis
dated May 1, 1975, he refers to his story as being "in
the grand tradition of Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of
Mars and Alex Raymond's Flash Gordon."
The release in 1977 of Star Wars episode IV: A New Hope, rekindled
the public's love affair with science fiction and spawned
a host of new and revamped series and heroes such as Battlestar
Galactica, Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. The subsequent release
of episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and episode VI: Return
of the Jedi moved Sci-Fi firmly to the front of mainstream
entertainment to the delight of fans everywhere.
